As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

When someone says "Oh, you're a Data Engineer" I show them this comic:

A Data Engineer is responsible for what happens in the data center, the 800 millisecond and 200 millisecond parts. They got the speeds as fast as they are now, and keep improving them. But clearly that's not going to significantly speed up the delivery of the business outcome. I focus on the whole business process instead. That story is completely different.
